Cats cop savage licking

19/08/2008 11:44:00 AM
IT'S a tough ask now for Albion in the race for the premiership in the Western Region Football League's first division.

The Cats are licking their wounds after going down to Spotswood by 37 points in the qualifying final at Kings Park Oval in St Albans on Saturday night.

They found it too difficult to keep the scoreboard ticking in the slippery conditions, especially with star forward Jason Butina being starved of opportunities.

Playing coach Stephen Zavalas and his players had fancied their chances of beating the reigning premiers for the second successive week.

They'd knocked the Woodsmen out of top spot after sneaking home at Parsons Reserve in the last home-and-away round the previous Saturday.

It's highly likely that Port Melbourne Colts and Spotswood will do battle in the grand final for the second successive season.

Meanwhile, in second division, Albanvale received a reality check of monumental proportions against North Footscray in the second semi-final at Grant Reserve in Altona on Saturday.

The Cobras were sent packing to the tune of 96points.

They didn't fire a shot.

The game was all over at quarter-time with Albanvale trailing 2.2 to 7.9.

Coach Alan Williams and his players will be shattered.

The Cobras had caused a major upset against Sunshine Heights in the qualifying final the previous Saturday.
